As the founding Editor-in-Chief of Cancer Informatics, my fi rst duty is to thank the Editorial Board for their support and participation, and their input on the direction, scope and focus of the journal, and also and especially Tim Hill. Without their considerable generosity and personal effort and passion in launching the journal, Cancer Informatics would not exist. I also gratefully acknowledge Dr. William Grizzle’s critical role as co-editor of this volume, and for overseeing the independent review process for two submitted manuscripts (Normelle et al & Lyons-Weiler et al).
